I know this is a photo blog, but I just could not help myself…
The seal hunt is going on and it looks so bad

So unnecessary…
I just got back from shooting Renee and Savio’s wedding at Madonna Inn, San Luis Obispo. It was a very fun event. This is the first of the two photographer’s wedding I am shooting this year. Renee is an accomplished photographer at Fresno Bee and Savio is a pilot. They were a very nice couple, with great family.
The day of the wedding it rained quite a bit in the morning but then it turned into a gorgeous day. We were able to go to the beach (Pismo Beach) and got some great shots.
These are some first look images:

The following photo-essay won honorable mention at NPPA’s Best of Photojournalism 2006. I have to admit I was teary eyed at the end.
The Bride Was Beautiful
Note: The link is not working right now, I will fix that by tomorrow.
I realized I never posted an album design here so I will be posting some from my archives as we go along. Here is a nice 10×14 album from this wedding:
The way albums work with my studio is very simple - you chose the images, I do the design. Simple as pie. Best of both worlds! One thing to keep in mind is that albums are not an overnight process - selecting images from hundreds of great images we give you will take time, and then design takes a bit time as well, and then depending on season, bookbinder can be from 1 week to 8 weeks out! Some studios prefer outsourcing the design, but we do it all in-house. The results come out fantastic.
Here is Mandi and Brian’s album design from Joseph, Oregon:

Let me know what you think!
ps. here is their wedding blog entry.
Wedding Photojournalist Association (WPJA) is a professional organization composed of photojournalists and wedding photographers from around the world. They have quarterly competitions and usually there are thousands of entries. They also now have a Artistic Guild which is a perfect fit for me I think. Their first competition I was invited to be a judge and it was really fun. The second one I was able to enter (as I was not judging) and got a 4th place and a 9th place out of over thousand entries. Here are the two images:
At the Portland White House Wedding

At the Portland Art Museum Wedding:

Some of you might know that I am an avid swing dancer. I have been doing it for about 9 years now. I attended some of the Portland Lindy Exchange this past weekend. The two events I attended were hosted at the Crystal Ballroom, my favorite place to dance. we had to leave a bit early the first night since we were super tired and I could not attend the other events because I was shooting a wedding on Saturday. But Sunday’s event was great. The organizers did a tremendous job in general and that night was no exception. They hired Art Abrams, a terrific big band. The place was rocking.
So what is a lindy exchange anyways?
Quoting from Virginia Swing Dance
“A Lindy Exchange is where a Swing Club from a certain city invites out-of-towners & locals to come dance for an extended weekend. Traditionally it has DJ’ed Dance Parties and/or Live Bands from the afternoons, evenings to the wee-hours until daybreak.”
Portland’s lindy exchange website is: http://portlandlx.com/
Here are some of the photos from that night, the rest can be found here.
