Associate Coverage: Yili and Dan’s Wedding in Portland’s Beautiful Chinese Garden

Yili and Dan were married in the beautiful serene surroundings of Portland’s Chinese Garden.  The Asian themed wedding was accentuated by the beautiful red oriental bridesmaid dresses that matched perfectly with with the lovely boquets from Passionflower Floral. Their ceremony was held on the Moon-Locking Pavilion in the center of the koi and lily pond.  After the ceremony, their guests departed the gardens on one of many PDX Pedicabs to their reception destination, Portland Embassy Suites, Queen Marie Ballroom. The wonderful reception was  full of great music and dancing.  Eric from All Wright Music was DJing the party, needless to say, the dance floor was packed all night long from the first dance to the finale of “New York New York” from ol’ blue eyes, Frank Sinatra.

Senate passed the Orphan Works Bill, a.k.a. S. 2913, The Shawn Bentley Orphan Works Act. This bill permits, and even encourages, wide-scale infringements while depriving creators of protections currently available under the 1976 U.S. Copyright Act, the Berne Convention for the Protection of Literary and Artistic Works, and the international TRIPs Agreement.  It is a terrible bill passed by back handed tactics and it hurts creative people and benefits cheats.

No Need to leave Studio For Weddings Anymore!

Good friend Josh Johnston pointed this ebay auction below. Maybe I don’t have to leave my studio to shoot a wedding anymore? Thanks Josh!

Canon Mirror Lens
5200mm 1:14

This is the only ultra-telephoto lens in the world capable of taking photographs of objects 18 to 32 miles away (30km to 52kms away). Having a focal length of 5200mm, Canon Mirror Lens 5200mm can obtain one hundred times as large an object image as that of a 50mm lens.
For focusing this mounted or fixed lens on an extremely distant object, two aiming telescopes are set on the side of the lens barrel, and the entire lens is placed on a rigid stand which rotates smoothly. Minimizing the overall length had been a big problem in designing this lens. However, the Catadioptric system that is applied to the other two Canon mirror lenses has succeeded in reducing it down to one third of the nominal focal length. In general focal length and optical aberration increase with each other, however, our long and persistent research and development have succeeded in solving this problem. Canon mirror lens 5200mm composed of spherical main and secondary mirrors and a correction lens would assure you of clear images.

Anna and Brian’s Wedding at Oregon Golf Club

One of the more popular themes in Oregon is a golf club wedding. Anna and Brian tied the knot at Oregon Golf Club. It was a beautiful day with views of Mt. Hood!

Anna and Brian took private dance classes and showed off their moves at their first dance. They ended their dance with a great dip (picture below). As a dancer myself, I really appreciated the cool moves and the choerography.  Another great idea they had was the orchids they gave as wedding favors. I planted mine! The dancing was great, They ended the night exiting under sparklers and leaving in a 1958 Rolls Royce.

Goodbye Blue Eyes!

Paul Newman passed away today. He was a great actor, one of my favorites, and also a great philanthropist. I buy his Newman-O’s and his popcorn all the time. You will be missed.

Tiffany and David at Garden Vineyards

Tiffany and David’s wedding at the Garden Vineyards was a classy vineyard wedding affair with gorgeous place settings, great flowers, wonderful food and beautiful summer weather. They had cupcakes instead of a traditional wedding cake, and used place cards supported by corks. Art of Catering created some wonderful dishes and appetizers. A string quartet played music for the guests. Everything went smoothly thanks to their coordinator Jeanne Lapp. Hummingbirds were in full swing - I was able to grab couple shots of them, check it out below!

Sneak Peek - Vesna and Tony at the Grotto

Many people do not know that a place like the Grotto exist in Portland. This beautiful 62 acre Catholic Shrine and botanical garden, also known as The National Sanctuary of Our Sorrowful Mother, is located near 82nd and Sandy, and is truly a world away from the surroundings. You can even take an elevator to a second level with gorgeous views and more amazing gardens. The Grotto only allows one wedding per week, and I had the chance to photograph there last week. It was a beautiful setting with some truly great weather.

The following is a quick selection from last week’s wedding. Vesna and Tony later moved the party to Portland Art Museum Kridel Grand Ballroom, decorated beautifully by Vibrant Table. There were multiple bands, one of which was Tony’s band. It was a musical feast to say the least!
