Lindsay and John at McMenamins Blackberry Hall

I love weddings at McMenamins Edgefield - beautiful murals and paintings, great light and a lot of fun couples! Lindsay and John were such a couple with lots of great friends and family.

One of the fun parts of the wedding was at the end -  all the boys got together and serenaded Lindsay. Everybody danced to the music of King Pins. Lots of fun!

Mary and Chris’ Wedding at Wine Country Farms

Mary and Chris’s tied the knot at beautiful Wine Country Farms in Dayton, middle of Oregon wine country! Their ceremony was at St. Peter Catholic Church at Newberg. The weather was gorgeous, and lots of friends, old and new attended the wedding.

Their wedding planner was Amy from Blush Bridal and thanks to her team, everything ran smoothly. The couple traveled between Wine Country Farm and St. Peter’s in a 1958 metallic blue Rolls Royce Silvercloud. There were some great speeches as well - families of Mary and Chris knew each other for a long time and the respect and love for each other showed! One of the fun moments of the wedding was when Mary and her girlfriends performed a song using microphones (hairbrushes) like they used to before they went out to party at college.

Associate Coverage: Jessica and Cory’s Elegant Vineyard Wedding

Jessica started her day off at Hotel Lucia Boutique Hotel in downtown Portland getting ready with her girlfriends for her big day. She then met up with Cory at the gorgeous Garden Vineyards in Hillsboro, decked out with beautiful flowers from Tommy Luke, later in the afternoon. They both looked great!

Many of their guests were from back East, so it was fun to see them enjoy the lovely Oregon wine country. They had a beautiful ceremony that was officiated by Jessica’s close friend, and exchanged super cool rings (see below). As the day turned gradually to night all the guests enjoyed their time together over dinner with Jessica and Cory. Once it was fully dark the guests were treated to sparklers, fabulous cake from Papa Haydn, and an evening of dancing with All Wright Music.

Associate Coverage: Erin and Jeremy’s Wedding at Garden Vineyards

Erin and Jeremy were married at the extraordinary Garden Vineyards in Hillsboro, Oregon, which is becoming one of our favorite ever places to shoot.  It was also probably the hottest day of the summer! Everything looked amazing and things ran perfectly thanks to Soiree wedding planners - the flowers by Geranium Lake were beautiful, the Oregon Ducks themed wedding cake looked amazing, and the guests were wowed by food from Art of Catering. We also had the pleasure of working with Focal Point Video who are very easy to work with. Once the sun went down behind the green hills surrounding the vineyard the party started to heat up again!

Associate Coverage: Shannon and Eric’s Vineyard Wedding

Shannon and Eric held their wedding ceremony in the very beautiful St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in NW Portland.  After the touching ceremony, they were whisked away in an amazing vintage metallic blue Rolls Royce limousine headed to Hillsboro’s Garden Vineyards.  Upon arriving to the scenic vineyard, the staff of  Art of Catering greeted Shannon and Eric with delicious cosmopolitans.  Every one of their friends and family had a chance to unwind at the venue with both breath taking views and delicious food and wine.

Once dusk started to approach and after dinner was served, the couple unveiled a “Scotch and Cigar” bar for their guests to get loosened up before the dancing was to begin.  I had no idea what I was in store for! The band was Hit Machine. WOW.  What started as a band playing the classic standards turned all of a sudden into an all out leopard print rock fest.  No kidding!  I had a hard time even finding space on the dance floors! What a night!

Microloans

Heads up, this has nothing to do with photography.

Professor Muhammad Yusuf won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2006 for his effort in alleviating poverty through micro-loans to the poor in this home in Bangladesh. “Micro-loans” imply loans that are not significant in amount. A lot of the loans we get are large amounts, and from commercial banks. Yusuf’s bank, Grameen Bank, in contrast, lends to the poor, in any amount. These are very small amounts for us, but it means a lot to people trying to make a living in third world countries.

These are not hand outs, they are loans, and they get paid back. It is a great way out of poverty, especially for women entrepreneurs in the poor countries. Not quite the same, but growing up in Turkey, I was able to go through high school and college due to the generosity of many people, and I feel a sense of duty to pay back. We donate to a bunch of charities, including Mercy Corp and my high school’s scholarship fund, and added the micro-loans as well. You can donate tax deductible, if you like, to Grameen Foundation, or lend (peer to peer lending) at Kiva.org

Vanessa and Ozgur’s Wedding at Timberline Lodge

Ozgur and Vanessa met at a snowboarding trip and they got married at Timberline Lodge. How perfect! Ozgur’s family came all the way from Turkey to attend this beautiful reception with some Turkish wedding touches. The ceremony featured mixing of the sands - originally the sand was going to be coming in from Turkish beach but due to some customs mishap, they used beautifully colored sand instead. They passed bags of Turkish candy (similar to akide sekeri) as their wedding favors and attached a “nazar boncugu” (evil eye), a traditional Turkish symbol.

Mt. Hood was a gorgeous backdrop to their wedding ceremony. For their romantic shots, I also used the other side of the mountain as a backdrop, using the forests and the reflection lake, and also Mt. Bachelor.

Enjoy!

Associate Coverage: Sandee and Derek’s Wedding at the Aerie at Eagle Landing

Sandee and Derek’s ceremony and reception was held at the always beautiful Aerie at Eagle Landing in Happy Valley, Oregon.  On what started out as a very overcast day, turned to an extraordinary day with a lovely sunset, and great lighting (perfect for photos).  The sun peaked from under the clouds right as we were shooting the couples session.   The reception was a fun-filled time and the ambiance of the hall was accented with beautiful flowers from the Fleur de lis Floral Botique.  It seemed like dancing was a passion for both Sandee and Derek as they were always on the dance floor as the DJ was cranking out the classics under the disco lights.
