Hanh & John’s Zihuatanejo Wedding

Zihuatanejo is one of my favorite places to visit. Situated near Ixtapa, a major resort and wedding destination, Zihuatanejo is much more relaxed and is less built up. It has some amazing beaches like Playa Ropa and Playa Las Gatas.  Zihuatanejo means “place of women” because it was a matriarchal society. If you ever end up at Zihuat, make sure to try tritas, an appetizer made with curing fish with lime juice. It is somewhat similar to ceviche in that aspect, but it tastes much different and I like it better!

I was originally scheduled to shoot Hanh and John’s Zihuatanejo wedding in May. I flew to Mexico and swine flu hit Mexican tourism. A lot of companies stopped their employees from flying into Mexico as a precaution. Hanh and John were ready to go with it, but unfortunately a lot of family and friends would not be able to make it - so they had to reschedule to summer. La Quinta Troppo was very accommodating for the wedding and Hanh and John kept a positive attitude about it. It ended up working even better as some of the family members who would not be able to make it to Zihuatanejo wedding in May due to their schedule were able to make it to La Quinta Troppo in July. weddings at Zihuatanejoare super fun so that was great!

When I went to the Los Angeles airport for my connection, I realized I was flying with the bride and groom and the wedding party! I actually ended up sitting right next to them. I whispered to the flight attendants that they were getting married, and they made an announcement and rest of the flight there were free drinks for the couple! Great start!

The first few pictures are from the rehearsal dinner, at La Parla restaurant at Playa Ropa, the same beach they got married the next day. Playa Ropa, along with Las Gatas beach,  is one of my favorite places to shoot a beach wedding ceremony as well. The sun is perfect and not too many people wondering.

The next day at Zihuatanejo was gorgeous as well - I started the day by photographing a boudoir session. Hanh is a very elegant bride, which made my job so much easier.  The ceremony was at the beach at sunset.

One of the things I love about Zihuatanejo destination weddings is that the guests are usually a small, but really intimate and fun group. We really bonded well.

One of the most amazing part of the wedding was at the very end. Hanh and John invited a group that performs traditional Mexican dances from different regions of Mexico. You can see the amazing Mexican traditional dance and dancers at the end! They looked fantastic in their costumes. As a dance photographer, I loved that I was able to capture these!

Amy and Matt’s Mazatlan Wedding at Mayan Sea Garden in Mexico

Mazatlan is my new favorite spot in Mexico I think. I am so glad Amy & Matt chose us as their Mazatlan wedding photographer at Mayan Sea Garden so we could visit this beautiful city in Mexico. It is a city of  400k people, and primarily the industry is either Mazatlan weddings, shrimp fishing or tourism (biggest shrimps I ever seen!)

Amy is one of those brides who is low key but super organized. Everything was well planned, but you never got the feeling that there was an ounce of stress the entire time. She created a wonderful Mazatlan travel guide with her mom, and it was better than any travel book on Mazatlan I ever seen. I will be posting it here so other Mazatlan brides can use it for their Mazatlan wedding or just as a Mazatlan wedding travel guide! We also joined the wedding party for a great Mazatlan city tour the day before the Mazatlan wedding and also at the rehearsal dinner. Homey, who is a licensed travel guide, is  a good friend of the family and is very knowledgeable and friendly, and he showed us all over the city. Since we had a day after session planned (I will post that later), he also took notes of places I liked.

We stayed at the Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan (a sister resort to Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay) and zipped around town in the fun Pulmonia’s, the open air taxis that literally mean pneumonia in Spanish. So much fun! Pueblo Bonito Mazatlan is a nice resort, with kitchen in rooms, so that was great for some cooking, but next time I will book the Pueblo Bonito Emerald Bay - it is so amazing.

The wedding day, we took the pulmonia to the Mayan Sea Garden. It is a beautiful resort, in Nuevo Mazatlan. We took some pictures of Amy and Matt getting ready, a few group shots and then to the reception. Amy looked beautiful and Matt had some tears when they first saw each other. It was a great day for photography. The sunset wedding ceremony was officiated by Pastor Jorge, another long time friend of Amy’s parents, and he sang a beautiful song to them (and later to his wife too, what a great voice!). Both ceremony and reception were at Mayan Sea Garden.

The rest of the day was punctuated by a gorgeous sunset. Amy, Matt and Sydney took a little time off from the wedding and went to the beach at sunset and we got some great shots there too. Mariachi’s were playing some great music to set the ambiance. One of the mariachi’s also decided to taste the cake a little ahead of time - I caught him in the act, check out the photos below! The cake was decorated with sea shels and a Mazatlan cake topper and was by Mama Dulci.

Alexis and Jerry in Sayulita (Puerto Vallarta), Mexico

Alexis and Jerry had their beautiful destination wedding in Sayulita Mexico, near Puerto Vallarta, on Valentines day,  in Don Pedro’s Palapa.

The day started with getting ready at Mi Otra Casa. Everything was being expertly coordinated by Gabriela and Guillermo of Mar Weddings. After the ceremony overlooking the ocean and Playa Los Muertos. Then we headed down to first the beautifully decorated cemetery to take some photos to the theme of eternal love. At the beach near the ceremony site, we took a few fun shots and we were playfully surrounded by a group of local kids, and their cute chihuahua. When we got back from the beach, a mariachi band led the couple to the reception - the fiesta and dancing started followed up by a romantic fireworks display during wedding cake cutting. Other highlights of their week included al pastor tacos at the rehearsal dinner and a cigar roller at the wedding location!

Associate Coverage: Hediyeh and Anoush Wedding Celebration at Villa Amor in Beautiful Sayulita, Mexico.

Hediyeh and Anoush basically had a 4 day non-stop party during their time in Sayulita. They had a beach party the night before the wedding, which included a mariachi band, an excellent DJ, who spun upbeat club beats all night long, and a surprise fire dancer near the end of the night. On the wedding day we were a top the beautiful Villa Amor Hotel, with views of the surfers and fishermen on the Sayulita beach. As family’s gathered below in the courtyard Hediyeh and Anoush appeared at sunset and joined in the festivities, with lots of great food, tequila, dancing, dancing and if you can believe it….more dancing!!

Jill y Michele’s Commitment Ceremony in Mexico

I had the privilige of being part of Jill and Michele’s commitment ceremony in Mexico. It is always a pleasure to work with artistic minded people, and both Jill and Michele and their guests were so much fun to be around. We had fireworks, mariachis, salsa band, and tacos pastor! A really fun evening overall! The couple also had one of the most unique invitation’s ever as well. They were designed by Jill’s sister, who is a graphic designer (Quoin Design). The place cards were also very unique - they used loteria cards for that purpose.

To add to the coolness, guests were able to spot some whales from the overlook on Don Pedro’s Palapa. Sayulita and Puerto Vallarta event planners Andrea and Gabi of Sayulia Dream Weddings did a fantastic job as usual organizing event.

I was also able to get some great scenic shots, given that there was a full moon. The night shot of Playa de Los Muertos with stars is my favorite, but the Sayulita bay is also really pretty.
